User:David Johnson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have been a Wikipedia member since February 17, 2004 and a Wikibooks member since November 21, 2004 where I contribute to the Cookbook (my Cookbook contributions).

What I do on Wikipedia

[edit]

In addition to the articles I have started or contribute to, I am on a mission to keep Wikipedia free from vandalism, spam, nonsense and vanity. As a result, I have developed somewhat deletionist tendancies.

I don't like the standard Wikipedia {{Image source}} and {{Image copyright}} tags - they contain too much information which new users just don't understand. With this in mind, I've created my own replacement for them both: {{User:David Johnson/nolicense}}. Feel free to use it and/or improve it.

I also take and upload photos for use on Wikipedia. Here's a gallery of my photos.

Recognition

[edit]
  • Three of the recipes I have created on Cookbook have reached featured status: Hamburger, Chicken Tikka and Chicken Tikka Masala!
  • This is hardly recognition, but a vandalism warning I posted to the talk page of an anonymous IP address (which I knew to belong to the BBC) was read-out on national radio since one of the presenters had committed the vandalism (I knew this since they discussed it on the show...). I like to think that this told listeners (many of whom were by this time vandalising articles referenced on the show) that Wikipedia takes vandalism seriously and perhaps made them think twice about continuing to do it or about doing it in the future.
  • A photo I took is used in a userbox!
